Three years after the onset of the Clone Wars; the noble Jedi Knights are spread out across the galaxy leading a massive clone army in the war against the Separatists. After Chancellor Palpatine is kidnapped, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former padawan, Anakin Skywalker, are dispatched to eliminate the evil General Grievous. Meanwhile, Anakin's friendship with the Chancellor arouses suspicion in the Jedi Order, and dangerous to the Jedi Knight himself. When the sinister Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, unveils a plot to take over the galaxy, the fate of Anakin, the Jedi order, and the entire galaxy is at stake. Upon his return, Anakin Skywalker's wife Padme Amidala is pregnant, but he is having visions of her dying in childbirth. Anakin Skywalker ultimately turns his back on the Jedi, thus completing his journey to the dark side and his transformation into Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi must face his former apprentice in a ferocious lightsaber duel on the fiery world of Mustafar.

George Lucas initially said that no characters from the original movies would appear in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) apart from a baby Luke and Leia. However, the final movie also has Yoda, Obi-Wan, Darth Vader, Palpatine, Chewbacca, Grand Moff Tarkin, Mon Mothma, R2-D2, C-3PO, Owen Lars, and Beru Whitesun/Lars, all of whom had appearances in Star Wars (1977), Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) or Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983).

Supreme Chancellor:
I hope you trust me, Anakin.


Anakin Skywalker:
Of course.


Supreme Chancellor:
I need your help, son. I want you to be the eyes, ears, and voice of the Republic. Anakin, I'm appointing you to be my personal representative on the Jedi Council.


Anakin Skywalker:
Me? A Master? I'm overwhelmed, sir. But the Council elects its own members. They will never accept this.


Supreme Chancellor:
I think they will. They need you, more than you know.

Continuity: Anakin's scar on his right eye changes, the part below his eye moves slightly down and lengthens. Also, on the DVD box cover, Anakin clearly doesn't have a scar; however throughout the movie the scar is there since he was supposed to have received it in between Episodes II and III.
