Harried mattress salesman Howard Langston is late for his son Jamie's karate class. To placate his unhappy son he asks him if there is anything he wants for Christmas. He wants Turbo Man. Howard naturally forgets to get it, and being Christmas eve no stores have it in stock. So Howard embarks on a comical quest to find one.

In March 2001, a U.S. District Court jury in Birmingham, Michigan, ruled that 20th Century Fox stole the script idea, "Jingle All the Way", from Detroit High School biology teacher, Brian Webster. The studio was ordered to pay $19 million, later reduced to $1.5 million. Webster submitted the script, then named "Could This Be Christmas?", to the studio in 1994 and never received payment or credit despite the film making $183 million. Fox appealed and the verdict was reversed, since Webster's script was submitted after the studio had already purchased a treatment (summary/outline) of what would become the film's script. The court acknowledged that it is not difficult to believe that two writers can independently create a plot using similar inspiration/experience.

They sit there and use subliminal messages to suck your children's' minds out! And I know what I'm talking about because I went to junior college for a semester and I studied psychology so I'm right in there, I know what's going on. They make the kids feel like garbage and you, the father, who's working 24/7 delivering mail so you can make an alimony payment to a woman that slept with everybody at the post office, but me! And then when you get the toy, it breaks and you can't fix it because it's little cheap plastic!

Continuity: The nativity statue that the reindeer knocks into the fireplace disappears in subsequent shots.
