Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his pit boss Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix to determine who is the fastest car in the world. As the action revs up, Mater becomes involved in an adventure of his own: a case of international espionage that will take him across Europe and into Japan.

Anachronisms: Miles Axelrod's engine (referred to by Mater as the worst engine ever made) is a 3.9 liter Rover V8, which was installed in Land Rover Defenders from 1994-1998 (and only in US specific models for that matter). However, as revealed by the spy photos, the engine is shown having British "Wheeland" (an homage to British Leyland, a UK Automotive Conglomerate) parts swapped out. British Leyland divested its stake Land Rover (and other brands) seventeen years earlier in 1977 and the engine, in its 3.9 liter form, had never been used in a British Leyland car or SUV.
