Anchor Bay Entertainment has just revealed they've snatched up the North American distribution rights to the psychological thriller Abandoned and will release the film this summer. The announcement wouldn't be big news if it weren't for the fact that Abandoned features the final film performance of actress Brittany Murphy.
Murphy, 32, was pronounced dead on December 20, 2009 after her mother found her unresponsive in the bathroom of the home Murphy shared with husband Simon Monjack. On February 4th the La County Coroner released the results of her autopsy, listing the official cause of death as community acquired pneumonia, iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication. #005Brittany Murphy's Final Film "Abandoned" Gets Release Date: 15/02/10
Brittany Murphy's final film has been granted a release date. "Abandoned," the psychological thriller she starred in with Dean Cain, will be hitting theaters in the summer.
The film was Murphy's final completed project before she unfortunately passed away in December.
Producers Jeffrey Schenck and Barry Barnholtz said in a joint statement, "Brittany will be deeply missed by everyone who worked on Abandoned. The film is a taut thriller which portrays Brittany's character is smart and tough - and that's how we all want to remember her."

#011Anchor Bay Takes Final Brittany Murphy Film: 11/02/10
All of the speculation involving the death of actress Brittany Murphy can stop now. The coroner says that she died from pneumonia and anemia. The drugs that were in her system were all prescription drugs, including cramp medication, and over the counter (cough syrup). The medication she took didn't help things at all (she wouldn't have been as bad off if she hadn't take the medication while being sick) but the actual cause of death was the pneumonia and anemia.
Of course, this doesn't mean that she couldn't have been saved. TMZ is reporting that authorities at the coroner's office say that Murphy's death was "preventable" if only she had been taken to the hospital sooner. This is probably the part of the coroner's report that family and friends don't want to hear about.
