Colter Stevens, a US Army helicopter pilot whose last memory is flying in Afghanistan, wakes up on a commuter train. However, he discovers that he has assumed the identity of another man. 8 minutes later, the train explodes and Stevens finds himself in some kind of pod. He then talks to someone named Goodwin, who tells him he has to go back and find out who the bomber is. He is sent back to go through the whole thing again and attempts to find who the bomber is but fails. The bomb goes off and Stevens finds himself in the pod again. He is sent back another time, yet still cannot find out anything. When he returns, he asks what is going on. Goodwin and Rutledge, the scientist in charge, tell him that he is part of a project that can put someone in another person's consciousness during the last 8 minutes of their life. Stevens then asks why he cannot just stop the bomb. He is told that he is not going back in time but placed in the moment so he can find out who the bomber is and if there are any other targets. On the side, Stevens finds himself falling for the woman traveling with him while he is still in the other man's consciousness.

Errors in geography: The PA system at the Glenbrook station announces a train destined for Skokie, north of Chicago. The train is repeatedly shown approaching Chicago from the south, making it impossible to get to Skokie from Glenbrook.
With more than a million titles, it isn't feasible to handpick recommendations for every film. That's why we came up with a formula to suggest titles that fit along with the selected one. The formula uses factors such as user votes, genre and keywords to generate an automatic response. The system produces relevant results most of the time but since recommended titles are not manually chosen, occasionally they may include less than perfect matches.
Very interesting concept.
This is a really good movie. Normally I don't like movies that replay the same scene over & over again, but this was done very well & kept my interest throughout.
Think of the Director Duncan Jones and you think of science fiction. He is unique in the fact that instead of traipsing down the well worn path to fantasy, his sci-fi is used to create worlds which are believable. Whilst the logic is sometimes a bit hard to grasp, it is generally just a by product to the actual drama which is unfolding before you and grabbing your attention.
Source Code can't be pigeon holed as one particular genre, Sci-fi, mystery, thriller and drama. It kicks off as a mystery, and just when you think you have it sussed, it reveals that this was just a premise to the drama. Once you have your head round that it changes direction again. With so much going on, it would be very easy for them to collide and become a giant mess. Source code has been created so cleverly it is clearly one of the best sci-fi films so far this year, as long as you just go with the rather dubious logic of the science.
It's not giving anything away by revealing that much of the impact of Source Code comes from the surprises, and there is a real biggie in there amongst them. Jake Gyllenhaal is the star of the show as helicopter pilot Capt. Colter Stevens. He wakes one morning to find he's part of a Government experiment. He is expected to put his confusion to one side and serve his country in order to help avert a major disaster.
A train outside Chicago has been blown up, and the bomber is threatening to detonate one right in the city. No clues have been left as to his identity, so this new, secret project begins. The Source Code is a programme that lets a test subject relive the last 8 minutes of a chosen persons life. The theory being that everyone has a short term memory that can be expanded and explored. So while in that 8 minute cycle you are in an alternative reality where you can explore then interact with the surroundings.
This isn't a memory, this is reality, but it is also a frozen section of time that can't be used to alter the present, or the future. Essentially it isn't really real, but in one sense it is. Stevens goes into the life of one of the passengers on the train to find the clues to the bomber's identity. He must repeat the 8 minute loop over and over again and keep experiencing the death.
.This is the main concept of the movie. The thread of the film is Stevens undertaking the task and trying to stop the bombing. It does take second place somewhat as the complex story unravels and the truth behind the Source Code and the secrets which Stevens himself is hiding. It isn't perfect but creates something very unusual these days in Hollywood, an original idea turned into an original film, and very good it too.
