Doug Cox escaped from Edwardsville, Illinois, in the '70s and headed to Los Angeles where he attended USC. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cinema and no job prospects. With nothing to lose, he joined The Groundlings, one of the foremost comedy/improv troupes in the country, where he wrote and performed for over 15 years. Doug has made dozens of appearances on television, in films and on stage. In 1988, his play White Squirrels opened to rave reviews and Doug received two Drama-Logue awards for his writing and performing. He later turned it into a screenplay. As a writer, Doug has written three screenplays on his own and co-written four more. His first co-written screenplay, No Smoking, was sold to New World Pictures. Doug co-wrote four episodes of the groundbreaking Pee-wee's Playhouse, two of which received Emmy nominations. He also has a long term (business) relationship with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. For 12 years he has co-written her Halloween Haunt stage show at Knott's Berry Farm, plus wraparounds for her Rhino Video releases, television specials for American Movie Classics, and two Elvira screenplays. He co-wrote and co-directed the short, Elvira on Survivor Island. In Novbember of 2001, Doug directed the feature film 'Sometimes What'.
