During the early 80's (and maybe late 70's) he attended the University of Miami, where he also trained and improved his diving abilities. Was highly respected from everybody in the swimming world; and also from fans who just enjoyed watching him with his casual yet elegant style. Friendly, smiley, a bit shy, but always classy.
