David Sherrill Biography
David Sherrill spent his adolescent years in the San Fernando Valley and on the beaches of Southern California. He attended Colorado State University where as a freshman drama major he began his journey toward becoming an actor, studying, training and performing in collegiate theater productions. Later, at the suggestion of his professor and mentor, Dr. Porter Woods, Chairperson of the Theater School at CSU, Dave moved to New York to continue his education at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. At NYU, Dave found himself under the tutelage of legendary, late acting gurus Stella Adler and Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse.In order to make ends meet between school and auditions, Dave took a job in Rockefeller Plaza at then Warner Communications, Inc. where he spent a year and a half working in various capacities at Atlantic Records, Warner Bros. Television and MTV. Dave then landed a small but recurring role in the ABC daytime drama, "All My Children."After spending the next year on and off the popular soap opera, he decided to move back to California and complete his training at UCLA's School of Theater, Film & Television. Back in Los Angeles and anxious to apply his newly acquired training and experience, Dave signed with a small boutique agency in Beverly Hills and once again hit the bricks, going to every audition he could. Then, after a string of part time jobs, extra work and many auditions, Dave was finally cast in a co-starring role in the 1986 feature film, "The Wraith," with Charlie Sheen, Nick Cassavetes, Randy Quaid, Sherilyn Fenn and Clint Howard under the direction of Mike Marvin. (Hot Dog, Wishman).Dave's career began to pick up speed as he soon landed his next role opposite Keanu Reeves in Thom Eberhardt's "The Night Before." Next, Dave found himself in the Israeli desert in Columbia Pictures', "The Beast," with Jason Patric, George Dzundza and Steven Bauer for director, Kevin Reynolds ("Waterworld," " Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves").Between films throughout the late 80s, Dave also guest-starred in a number of network television series including "21 Jump Street" and "China Beach". He received critical notice for his work in the CBS Movie of the Week, "Terror On Highway 91," which also starred Rick Schroeder, George Dzundza, Matt Clark and Lara Flynn Boyle. Dave's career continued into the 90s with his work in Warner Bros.', "The Rookie," where he co-starred opposite his childhood hero, Clint Eastwood who was also the film's director.Later, he went on to star as Ethan Hawks, Gena Rowlands' upwardly mobile son in the Nick Cassavetes ("The Notebook", "John Q", "Alpha Dog") scripted and directed "Unhook The Stars" opposite Marisa Tomei, Gerard Depardieu, Moira Kelly and Jake Lloyd.Next, Dave was found starring along side Charlie Sheen and Christopher McDonald in the 1999 independent feature film, "Five Aces" which he also wrote and co-produced.Today, as he continues to enjoy a successful career in film and network television, he is still most widely recognized and remembered for his recurring portrayal of homeless Marine veteran, Sgt. Jack Canner, on the 90s FOX television series, "Beverly Hills, 90210."
