Like his character Spencer Reid from "Criminal Minds" (2005), Matthew Gray Gubler comes from Las Vegas, Nevada. While he was at NYU film school, a model scout discovered him and Matthew worked for Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, and American Eagle to name but a few. His sister Laura Dahl is a fashion designer based in New York. After he began his modeling career, Matthew had an internship with Wes Anderson, who offered him the role of Nico (Intern #1) in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004). Soon afterward, Matthew was catapulted into the limelight as Dr. Spencer Reid, a genius in the Behavioural Analysis Unit at the FBI.Although he's an exceptional actor Mathew's first love is filmmaking. He has starred in several mockumentaries that parody his life behind the scenes of Criminal Minds.Matthew took to the director's chair for season 5, episode 16, called 'Mosley Lane', season 6, episode 18 called 'Lauren', and will be directing season 7, episode 19.
