Phillip Rhys was born the second of three boys in South London. After graduating from Westminster College he spent a year living and working in Paris. He then returned to London to study acting with Marianna Hill at The Lee Strasberg Institute and later with Jeffrey Tambor and Milton Katselas at The Beverly Hills Playhouse in Los Angeles.Phillip has developed his acting talent with a diverse range of roles across film, television, and theatre. Upcoming projects include The Space Between (2010/I) with Oscar-winner Melissa Leo which is set to air on the USA Network on September 11th, 2011 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and The Adventures of Tintin (2011) directed by Academy Award-winner Steven Spielberg and set to be released December 23rd. Additionally, Rhys has completed production on Wilde Salome (2011) a film written, directed, and also starring Academy Award-winner Al Pacino. An exciting project using a mixture of documentary, fiction, and improvisation to re-interpret Oscar Wilde_s most controversial work, Wilde Salome (2011) is due for release later this year.Recently, Rhys starred in the successful drama "Survivors" (2008) which aired for 2 seasons on BBC and BBC America. This reimagining of the classic 1970s series was set in the present day and focused on a group of survivors in the aftermath of a devastating virus which wiped out most of the world's population. Rhys plays a rich playboy, _Al,' who suddenly and reluctantly finds himself responsible for an 11 year old boy; a challenge that will ultimately require him to be a much better man than he was is his old life. Rhys is also known for his roles in other critically-acclaimed television series and was seen as 'Jude Sawyer,' 'Joely Richardson's' love interest, in the Golden Globe-winning show "Nip/Tuck" (2003). He played the pivotal role of _Reza Naiyeer,' a mysterious, romantic businessman who comes under investigation for suspected links to terrorists, in the Emmy Award-winning second season of "24" (2001). Rhys_ performance fast established him as one of Hollywood's most sought after young talents, and he was nominated by The Screen Actors Guild for his role as part of the ensemble for Outstanding Performance in a Drama Series.In 2002, Rhys was seen in "Flatland" (2002), a 22 episode sci-fi action drama series set in 2010, Shanghai. The series was produced by Al Ruddy (Academy Award-winner for "The Godfather") and was the first series for American television to be shot entirely in mainland China. Rhys, who costarred with Dennis Hopper, played the role of _Quentin Mitchell,' a reformed mob lawyer. His other television credits include "Bones," "NCIS," "Shark," "Fertile Ground," and "Warehouse: 13."Alongside his extensive television work, Rhys is well known on the independent film circuit with roles in such films as "Punks," produced by music industry mogul Babyface, "Woundings," with Ray Winstone and Guy Pearce, the Sundance hit Kill the Man (1999)," in which he co-starred with independent film regular Luke Wilson, "Americanizing Shelly," and Fathers and Sons (2005) (TV), directed by Rodrigo GarcĂ­a's.He also starred as intergalactic rock star Proto Zoa in the hugely successful Disney-produced _"Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century" (1998)_ series of films and as Tanus, an Egyptian warrior, in the miniseries _"The Seventh Scroll" (1999)_ based on the best-selling novel by Wilbur Smith.On stage, Rhys has won several notices including an LA Weekly ensemble award for his performance in Dario Fo_s "The Devil With Boobs" and a Drama-Logue Award for playing a laid back Texan in the Los Angeles stage production of "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean." Other performances include 'John Buchanan Jr.' in Tennessee Williams_ "Summer and Smoke" and a turn in John Patrick Shanley_s "The Dreamer Examines His Pillow" at the Theatre West.Rhys is involved in various non-profit and extra curricular organizations including the E.S.L. Educational Programs for Adults, BAFTA LA Outreach and the Inner-City Filmmakers.
