
Saturday Night at the Movies, Canada's longest-running movie program, offers an intimate look into how films are made and explores themes that relate to us on a social, political and cultural level, and reflect how we live our lives today. Every Saturday night, the program airs a double-bill of uncut movies with "The Interviews," a segment in-between featuring explorations into and discussions about how movies are made. This 2008/09 seasons marks the celebration of the series' 35th on the air - a landmark in Canadian broadcasting - as SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES continues to be the highest-rated program on the network. Over the years, SNAM has had the privilege of interviewing many of Hollywood's greatest actors, actresses, directors, writers, producers, and cinematographers, including William Goldman, Ray Bradbury, John Sayles, Martin Short, Penny Marshall, Ivan Retiman, Robert Towne, Catherine O'Hara, Cybill Sheppard, Norman Jewison, Crispin Glover, Eli Roth, Michael Madsen, Gary Busey, Mel Brooks, Donald Sutherland, William Friedkin, and John Singleton, amounting to over 1,300 interviews to date. Interviews in the upcoming 2008/09 season will feature Eileen Atkins, Imelda Staunton, Joe Regalbuto, Richard Schiff, Stacey Keach, Oliver Stone, Wesley Strick, Mariel Hemingway, Kevin Reynolds, Ione Sky, and others honoring the show with their insights and discussion.
With more than a million titles, it isn't feasible to handpick recommendations for every film. That's why we came up with a formula to suggest titles that fit along with the selected one. The formula uses factors such as user votes, genre and keywords to generate an automatic response. The system produces relevant results most of the time but since recommended titles are not manually chosen, occasionally they may include less than perfect matches.
