The Simpsons are a very politically incorrect family. Homer works with pride in a nuclear power plant run with more regard for profit that safety. His wife is Marge, a kind of supermom. They have three kids: Bart, an underachiever ("and proud of it"), Lisa (who is as serious and responsible as Bart isn't), and Maggie.

On 17 January 2003, Fox announced that it had renewed the show until 2005 and its 16th season. This will make the series the longest running comedy series in US TV history save for "Saturday Night Live" (1975), and it will have beaten the previous record holder for longest-running prime-time animated series ("The Flintstones" (1960)) by a full 10 years.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs: ... almost everything. This is a comedy animation series, and while efforts are certainly made to create a vaguely consistent setting in which mostly consistent characters live and work, the emphasis is clearly on laughs. Individual episodes must be consistent within themselves, but rigid continuity between episodes is unnecessary. Indeed, additional humor has been wrung, during the life of the show, from the very fact that the episodes are inconsistent with each other. No further "In one episode they say... but then in another episode they say..." goofs can be accepted.
